The first-ever Franchise Rugby League licence has been awarded to Valencia Huracanes. Backed by the Spanish Rugby League, the Huracanes are gearing up to get back on the field and showcase the growth and potential of the sport outside traditional strongholds.

Before the COVID pandemic disrupted global sports, Valencia Huracanes were in discussions with the Rugby Football League to secure their place in League 1. With the granting of the Franchise Rugby League licence, the Huracanes will now have a competition that allows them to work towards their ambitions and to expand the reach of rugby league as a sport in Spain.

Valencia Huracanes will be looking to recreate the atmosphere and excitement of their inaugural match against Featherstone Rovers in 2020, which saw an impressive turnout of 587 attendees.
