Bob Lovell Appointed as Head of Coaching and Player Development for Alicante Cruzados

The Alicante Cruzados are excited to announce the appointment of Bob Lovell as Head of Coaching and Player Development. Lovell, a Yorkshire native with a lifelong passion for rugby, brings an impressive track record of experience in both codes of the sport.

From the age of 8, Lovell has been involved in rugby, playing, coaching, and managing multiple Army teams at all levels. During his time in the military, he also held the position of Head Coach for the Bristol Sonics RLFC, who ironically, Alicante Cruzados will play in their season kick off in September. He also coached Scotland A Rugby League in 2003/4, before taking a break to serve on tour in Afghanistan.

Upon his return, Lovell continued coaching the Royal Signals, Army Ladies, and ultimately played for the Army Rugby League Masters before leaving the military. In addition to his coaching experience, he served as the Combined Services & Army Coach Development Officer, where he was responsible for coach education and course provision.

Lovell relocated to Spain in 2016 and has since played for Elche Veterans, Valencia Warriors, and Spain Rugby League against the GB Teachers. He holds Level 2 coaching qualifications in both rugby league and union and has a proven history in training, education, and sports development.
