In an exciting development for the sport of rugby league, the Alicante Cruzados have been granted a Franchise Rugby League License for the 2024 season.

The addition of the Cruzados will further strengthen the competition and expand the reach of rugby league in Spain. The team will be headed up by Rodrigo Molina, a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience working with multiple clubs. Molina was the founder of one of Madrid’s first rugby league teams, Griffons RL, and boasts a Level 1 coaching qualification as well as expertise in organizing high-level international events.

The Alicante Cruzados will be joining their neighbors, the Valencia Huracanes, in the competition in 2023, adding another dynamic element to the league. Whilst rivals on the field, the two clubs will be working together off the field, with the aim of promoting rugby league and growing the sport’s fan base throughout Spain and will be hoping to build on the success of Valencia’s last game which attracted an attendance of 587 spectators. By collaborating on various initiatives, the Cruzados and Huracanes will be leveraging their shared passion for the sport to further its development and bring it to new audiences.
