THE DRAFT

Introducing the Draft

Franchise Rugby League is set to introduce a draft system for the 2024 season, marking the first time Rugby League will use this approach. The draft system will apply to both men’s and women’s competitions, allowing teams to build strong rosters by selecting young and established players.

Existing rugby league players will be able to apply for the draft. Succesful applicants will be invited to a combine where they will be able to gain entry into the 2024 Draft.

The eight most promising players (four in each competition) will receive the “Star of the Future” designation. Each team will have an allocated budget for the 2024 season, with any remaining funds available for selecting draft picks.

The draft system aims to create parity across both men’s and women’s competitions, ensuring that every team has an equal chance of success. The system provides a fair platform for players to showcase their skills, promoting gender equality in sports.
